Honduran Batana Oil & West African Palm Kernel Oil (Raw, Unrefined)
Experience the rare heritage of true Honduran Batana Oil a nutrient-rich treasure crafted by hand and preserved through generations alongside our West African Palm Kernel Oil, a strengthening, lauric-rich oil cherished across West Africa for its powerful conditioning benefits.
Our authentic Honduran Batana Oil (Elaeis oleifera) is 100% raw, unrefined, and traditionally valued for its powerful ability to nourish the hair, scalp, and skin. This sacred oil comes from the kernels of the American oil palm and carries its signature rich, smoky aroma and creamy, crumbly texture. Free from additives, fillers, and synthetic blends, authentic Batana is packed with Omega-6 and Omega-9 fatty acids that lock in moisture, reduce dryness, and restore elasticity. Its natural Vitamin E content offers strong antioxidant protection, helping hydrate, repair, and strengthen from root to tip. Batana is known for transforming dry, damaged hair and bringing back softness, shine, and fullness. It also conditions and strengthens the beard, delivering targeted nourishment with every drop.
Also known as Ojon Oil, Batana is extracted from the nut of the American oil palm and has been treasured for generations as a powerful remedy for hair and skin. Used for hundreds of years by the Miskito people of Honduras, Batana is celebrated for promoting long, strong, healthy hair. The Miskito proudly call themselves “Tawira,” meaning “people of beautiful hair,” a testament to the extraordinary benefits of this sacred oil.
Batana Oil is created from the American palm tree found in the rainforests of Central and South America and is considered extremely rare due to its labor-intensive production. Each kernel is removed by hand, washed carefully, soaked for three days, and slowly roasted for 30–45 minutes. After roasting, the kernels are separated from the nuts, and the nutrient-rich oil is gently extracted. This traditional, handcrafted method is why authentic Batana Oil is so valuable and deeply respected.
Batana Oil is high in oleic and linoleic acids, Vitamin E, and natural emollients that help restore dry or damaged hair, moisturize the scalp, support elasticity, and protect the skin from environmental stress.
Color:
Unless cold-pressed (which produces an ivory or pale beige color), roasted Batana should appear deep brown to black in liquid form and brown to dark brown in solid form. If the oil appears light yellow or orange, it has likely been mixed with other oils such as red palm oil. If outer shells are crushed into the mixture, the oil may appear mid-brown this is normal for some handcrafted batches.
Melting test:
Real Batana melts quickly upon contact with the skin and absorbs effortlessly without leaving a greasy film. Even at room temperature, it should begin to soften unless stored in a very cold environment.
Understanding the difference between West African Palm Kernel Oil and Honduran Batana Oil:
West Africa produces Palm Kernel Oil from the Elaeis guineensis palm not Batana. Palm Kernel Oil is rich in lauric acid, known for antibacterial and anti-inflammatory benefits. It strengthens hair and is excellent for acne-prone or eczema-prone skin because lauric acid helps prevent clogged pores and irritation.
Honduran Batana Oil contains a much higher concentration of oleic acid a heavier, intensely moisturizing fatty acid that deeply nourishes the scalp and strands. Because of its richness, those with very sensitive or acne-prone skin may prefer Palm Kernel Oil for facial use. Both oils are beneficial, but each supports different needs. The right choice depends on your skin type, scalp condition, and hair goals.
Ingredients:
100% authentic Honduran Batana Oil a superior natural emollient celebrated for its ability to deeply nourish the hair and scalp. Known for repairing damage caused by UV exposure, pollution, chemical treatments, and dyes, Batana transforms dry, brittle strands into softer, fuller, healthier hair. It supports shine, thickness, moisture retention, and may gradually darken gray strands. It also benefits the skin, helping soften dryness, fade scars and stretch marks, and gently exfoliate rough areas.
